Cancer Screening

Thought Leadership

This section contains the views and methods practiced by Dr. Weisberg, who is renowned for his comprehensive approach to disease prevention. He has lectured widely on preventive medicine as well as PCCP topics in the primary care setting. This information is posted to help you gain a better understanding of these conditions. As always, please consult with your physician to clarify or initiate any ideas discussed.

Cancer is a disease that can strike anyone, regardless of family history, lifestyle or age. It does not discriminate and, regardless of race or gender, it will occur in your lifetime or in someone dear to you. Colon cancer, for example, appears in one of 16 American lives, sometimes with devastating results if not detected early. Many of the most common cancers seen today are preventable through simple screenings and early detection.

The good news is that modern medicine has developed many cancer screenings. PSL is on the forefront of utilizing the newest, most reliable testing to detect cancer in its earliest stages. The following is our list of recommendations for cancer screening:

  • Mammography, breast ultrasound and breast MRI.
  • Colonoscopy screening every 7 to 10 years for early detection of colon cancer for all men and women over age 45.
  • CAT scan of chest periodically for all current and former smokers, for early detection of lung cancer.
  • Annual PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood testing for men over the age of 40, for early detection of prostate cancer.

While not all cancers lend themselves to early detection and prevention, many, like colon cancer, are curable when detected early. It truly is a matter of life or death. PSL, with its focus on the prevention of disease for optimal health, is vigilant about ensuring that each patient is properly screened and tested based on age and other risk factors.
