Preventive Services
Our Approach
As the name implies, one of the key focal area of Prevention Specialists, Ltd. (PSL) is on prevention. Proactive diagnosis of risk factors and proper management of those risks is inherent in PSL’s approach. From preventive cardiology to cancer screening to smoking cessation, Dr. Weisberg puts his training as a Board-Certified Internist and as a Master Psychopharmacologist to practice for his patients everyday.
Throughout his career as an Internist and 16 years of practice in General Medicine, Dr. Weisberg has focused on the treatment and prevention of diseases. He marries this focus with his own medical philosophy – Primary Care Clinical Psychopharmacology (PCCP) – in which physical health and mental health are viewed as inseparable in the quest for wellness. Dr. Weisberg’s success in preventive medicine comes from knowing that his patients don’t just want “perfect” blood pressure and cholesterol numbers; they want to feel and be their best.
Dr. Weisberg combines the latest advances in PCCP along with new developments in the fields of preventive medicine. By treating the “whole patient,” he offers comprehensive medical care with a much more in-depth focus on the preventive aspects of good health.
Whether evaluating and screening patients for risks associated with heart disease, cancer, smoking or other disorders, each individual receives the following:
- A Comprehensive Physical Exam. As PSL’s signature service, this two-hour process entails a detailed review of your health status, which includes a risk factor assessment. This begins each patient’s “Program Year.”
- Diagnostic Testing. As necessary, Dr. Weisberg may request additional laboratory tests in The Diagnostic Center, which is conveniently located onsite next to PSL’s office in The Physician Center at Vernon Hills. There, patients can receive comprehensive diagnostic testing (laboratory, MRI, CAT scan, X-ray, ultrasound, nuclear medicine) as well as other ancillary medical services such as Cardiac Stress Testing and Physical Therapy.
- Health Report. Once the physical exam and diagnostic screenings are completed, each patient receives a detailed Health Report that includes:
- A General Health Assessment with emphasis on prevention as well as “active” medical problems.
- An outline of Health Goals for the commencing year.
- A Plan of Therapeutic Action, including lifestyle and pharmacologic interventions to help you achieve your goals.
- Complete Prescribing Information for any medication prescribed that reviews, in detail, exact dosages as well as all potential risks and adverse events of each medication prescribed.
- Precise instructions for Follow Up and contact information for reporting adverse events.
- Ongoing Communication. Frequent communication via e-mail and telephone is a routine and integral part of Dr. Weisberg’s approach. This is intended to strengthen his partnerships with each individual patient so that the proper preventive services and treatments can be maintained to achieve safe, optimal outcomes.
